Technical Guidelines (download/print pdf)
| "Selection Guideline for Insulated Metal Panels" |
This guideline is designed to give a brief overview of insulated metal panel products for architects, specifiers and owners who are not familiar with them. The guide describes what Insulated Metal Panels are, where they are used and how they compare to other systems. Product testing and certification is detailed as well as design parameters and installation facts. The 32-page guideline was researched and written by the MCA Insulated Metal Panel Council and includes photos of applications, and descriptive schematics and detailed illustrations.

| "Smooth-Faced Uninsulated Metal Wall Panels" |
This guide describes wall cladding materials that include metal composite materials, aluminum plate and honeycomb core panels. The typical applications and performance criteria for each type of material are covered. A detailed section on the widely used finishes includes paint systems, anodized finishes and mica or metallic coating systems. Building owners, designers and architects will appreciate a summary of the features and benefits of uninsulated metal wall panels and a specification guideline for each type of material included in this publication.

| "Metal Roof Design for Cold Climates" |
This Guideline for Commercial Roofing addresses the unique challenges that must
be addressed when designing for cold climates. Metal roofs have long been considered
a product of choice for snow areas because of their superior response and tolerance.
Topics covered include: effects of gravity loads induced by snow, snow-melt phenomena, and
design considerations with respect to icing, snow shed, and snow retention.

| "Preformed
Metal Wall Specification Guidelines" |
This new guideline is designed to
assist architects, specifiers, manufacturers and others who are preparing
project specifications involving metal wall panels. It presents
a format to solicit equivalent and competitive bids based on performance
and includes details of what to look for in system preformance, maintenance, components
and installation tolerances.
This publication replaces the "Preformed Metal Wall Guidelines" of 1995.

| "A Primer on Diaphragm Design" |
|
This MCA manual provides the supporting theory, load tables, relevant problems,
and illustrations regarding connection details for roof or wall diaphragm assemblies.
The scope of the work includes a variety of material connections:
elevated side flat fastening, top flat fastening, bottom flat fastening,
fastening to wood, aluminum and steel as well as structural members and fastening
of exposed cladding. This manual provides an extremely valuable design tool to
professionals in the metal construction industry.
This edition replaces the 2001 first edition manuscript with the pale blue cover.
A typical diaphragm assembly consisting of metal roof or wall panels,
purlins, girts, fasteners or welds and the main structural framing are
subjected to external forces such as wind, seismic ground motion or
asymmetric loading. These forces are transferred to the diaphragm where
the panel geometry and connections can determine the diaphragm's shear
strength.
This manual contains strength and behavior formulas that take into
account a wide variety of panel types, connection/connector patterns,
effects of insulation and other construction details. The results are
based on research sponsored by the MCA and performed at West Virginia
University under the direction of Dr. L.D. Luttrell, P.E.
