Kingspan Electrifies Training Facility

The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) sought to create a facility that would serve as both a training center for electricians and union offices, and also include an outdoor space for entertainment functions, all while incorporating quality materials and good design that would also allow for future expansion.

Business Challenge:
With a growing membership of over 290, the IBEW local 1186 union needed a multi-purpose space capable of housing offices and a training facility all while having an aesthetically pleasing look appropriate for hosting various social functions.

Kingspan Solution:
BENCHMARK By Kingspan worked closely with the architect and general contractor to keep within project schedule and budget constraints. A pre-engineered structural frame was chosen to facilitate ease of installation, increasing faster build times of both roof and wall. Designwall 2000 and R-Series panels quickly cladded the walls while KingZip Standing Seam Roof panel’s mechanical seaming process saved on labor costs and ensured superior air and weather tightness.

Architectural Benefits:
The metallic BENCHMARK By Kingspan panels married well with the native West Red Cedar wood. The sleek, clean ribbed metal was greatly warmed by the richness of the soffit and entry way accent panels.

Benefit to Contractor:
Speed of envelope enclosure, roof and walls, enabled work to begin quickly on the interior of the facility. The fast build reduced labor costs and kept the expected schedule.

Benefit to Owner:
Energy efficiency was optimized by three inch thick roof and wall panels which delivered an R-Value of 21. Kingspan’s unique joint design created excellent foam-to-foam contact, providing an unbroken thermal shield against heat transfer.
