San Francisco International Airport (SFO) is one of the busiest airports in the county, serving more than 55 million passengers annually. Running an airport that size takes an army of people, and the different operational teams had been working out of multiple buildings that were nearing the end of their life cycle.
The airport commission built the Consolidated Administration Campus to put all the teams under one roof. The 135,000 square foot building was co-designed by architectural firms Perkins + Will and Mark Cavagnero Associates.
The World’s First Net Zero Energy Airport
SFO has plans to become a net zero energy campus by 2021; if successful it will be the world’s first net zero energy airport.
The Consolidated Administration Campus building is an important part of that effort. The building was awarded LEED Gold status by the United States Green Building Council and is net zero energy capable.

IMPs Help With LEED Certification
SFO’s Consolidated Administration Campus’ design utilizes more than 55,000 square feet of Kingspan Designwall 2000 Architectural Wall Panels.
Kingspan panels help building owners pursuing LEED certification by earning points for energy modeling and reducing energy use, energy intensity, recycled content and volatile organic compounds.
Kingspan’s Designwall 2000 panels contain polyisocyanurate foam core insulation that has been GREENGUARD Gold certified, so they have been third-party tested to ensure that their components are not harmful to building occupants and do not adversely impact indoor environment quality.
Utilizing Custom Panels For Ease Of Installation
The architects describe the building’s design as “airport industrial” and required panels in custom widths and lengths, which were all done during the manufacturing process to make for an easier installation.
Deep Joints For Impactful Design
The project also utilizes unique Kingspan Deep Joint panels that allow 2” and 3” panels to be joined together.
