IMPs have desired R-value, aesthetics for new chemical manufacturing facility

Metl-Span's CF42 Mesa panel offers durability

LEWISVILLE, Texas, February 23, 2017 – Greenfield Manufacturing, a contract chemical manufacturing company in Saratoga Springs, N.Y., needed a new facility, having outgrown the building it was leasing. With the goal of constructing a maintenance-free and energy-efficient facility, while keeping aesthetics in mind, insulated metal panels from Metl-Span were chosen to provide all solutions.

“Insulated metal panels offer the combination of desirable aesthetics and the ability to easily meet the energy codes,” says Mike Munter, Vice President of Munter Enterprises in Sarasota Springs. “They are perfect for projects like this. IMPs gave Greenfield the opportunity to erect an energy-efficient building that meets their specific needs. They have a great R-value to help keep heating and cooling costs down and the desired architectural appeal. For us, they’re user friendly and very easy to install.”

Almost 15,000 square feet of Metl-Span’s CF42 insulated metal panels were installed on the new 30,000 square foot Greenfield Manufacturing building, which is 25 feet tall to the eaves. The exterior of the CF42 panels are 26-gauge Galvalume with a PVDF coating in Slate Gray, while the interior panels are 26-gauge Galvalume in polyester Igloo White. Three inches of urethane insulation is sandwiched by the metal panels, which were Metl-Span’s Mesa profile. Mesa is a lightly corrugated profile to ensure symmetry outside the building and inside, from room to room. The panels were installed vertically.

“Projects of this type require a lot of planning and discussions with the owner as to the nature of the proposed use,” says John A. Paone, RA, Project Architect at Paone Architecture in Saratoga Springs, N.Y. “With the building and energy codes also becoming more and more stringent, insulated metal panels for the wall easily addressed numerous requirements which allowed us to focus on the more complex aspects of this project.”

Greenfield Manufacturing focuses on producing performance coatings and the development of high-quality fuel additives that create economic value within the energy industry. Munter says the interior of the insulated metal panels offers a durable and easy-to-clean surface, another benefit for the company.

“They are also favored by the tradespeople to work with after they are installed,” he says. “Having the 26 gauge interior panel surface allows you to easily strap conduit and other light processing lines almost anywhere on the wall plane.”

Aside from working around a below-eave canopy halfway up the front sidewall of the building, Munter says the Greenfield Manufacturing project was a rather straightforward install.

“The canopy provided practical protection above the entryway and shade for the first floor windows facing east,” Munter says. “It was a simple architectural element to break up a big wall and easy to work around with insulated panels.”

Munter says his company has seen its business grow with the increased use of insulated metal panels. He credits Metl-Span’s extensive library of details that help with the ease of installation. “They’ve seen it all and can help with any detail, dealing with any corner, transition or opening. Their staff is always there if we have a question.”
